EL PASO, Texas -- Be it a secret or a sin, it's not always easy to get your bad deeds off of your chest.Catholics go to confession with a priest to get rid of their burdens. But some people are pointing and clicking their guilt away on web sites where you can confess your sins. In El Paso, the idea is not getting much praise. "I think you should do it the old fashioned way -- go to the priest.” said Isabel Ramirez who is Catholic."I'd rather talk to someone, in person,” said Ricky Rodriguez, who is also Catholic. Some of the websites for dumping sins and secrets are ivescrewedup.com, where people have admitted to stealing money, bullying others, and homosexuality.A Georgetown University study in 2005 showed a number of Catholics that stopped going to confession. Catholic Officials said confession is steady in El Paso, with 400 people showing up for confession at St. Patrick's Cathedral Thursday night."The internet, for us, is not a valid form of the sacrament of reconciliation or confession," said St. Patrick’s Cathedral Rector Fr. Rick Matty. While the Roman Catholic church is against online confessions, other churches are hosting the web sites.Life Church.tv owns the confession site mysecret.tv. Leaders said 30,000 people have posted messages. Ivescrewedup.com is also owned by a church. Neither sites record computer IP addresses.
